The Olsen- Hegar needle holder is combined with a suture scissor for ease of use while suturing. Most commonly ordered with Tungsten Carbide inserts, this serrated jaw offers 2600 teeth per square inch. Tungsten carbide inserts insure firm holding of needles and sutures. The three advantages of the tungsten carbide jaws are:
1) they are more durable and last longer
2) the tungsten carbide jaws grip better, and
3) the tungsten carbide jaws can be replaced.Used for driving the needle, then cutting the suture without changing instruments.
